Augusta Storm Water Mural project received 70+ designs and a public vote is open

Augusta, GA – The Greater Augusta Arts Council is thrilled to announce that Augusta’s local artists submitted more than 70 designs for the “It All Flows Into the Savannah” storm drain mural project! This is a phenomenal response from artists, who applied their creative gifts to the issue of environmental stewardship. It is a testament to the creativity that is alive in our city. Now the Arts Council wants to hear from you!
The Arts Council is asking for the community’s help by opening a digital poll so that residents can vote for their favorite mural designs that were submitted during the call for art. Please keep in mind that the Public Art Advisory Panel is the formal deciding body for this project, and poll results will form a strong basis for the selection process. The voting platform will be available and active until March 27, 2021 at midnight.
Each of the designs has been printed and framed for display in the City Gallery at the Municipal building, located at 535 Telfair Street. The mural designs will be installed on March 15th and available as a public exhibit from March 15, 2021 to April 30, 2021. The gallery is open from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Visitors can see each of the designs in person and there will be QR codes posted throughout the gallery to allow in-person visitors to easily access the public voting platform on the Arts Council’s website.

There are two separate questions in this voting platform. One is for designs that are meant for the Augusta Common, where the zone for these murals stretches between two storm drains. These designs are noticeably more rectangular shaped than the others. The second question is for designs that were submitted to be placed next to, or on, storm drains around Downtown Augusta with a more square-shaped footprint for the work.
Please consider casting your vote in both questions. You may pick your top two (2) favorite murals for the Common and your top five (5) favorite murals in the second question for the more square-shaped designs. Keep in mind that this platform is set up so that each person can only vote one time, and that there are required contact information questions. You can also opt into the Arts Council’s twice monthly newsletter as part of the voting process if you choose to do so.
